Leave of Absence
Find out if your child is eligible for the Leave of Absence scheme and apply to keep their school place while overseas.
Overview
The Leave of Absence (LOA) scheme allows your child to rejoin their school after they return from overseas.
If your child is granted LOA, they will remain a registered student and may return directly to the school when they come back to Singapore.
Eligibility
The LOA scheme is available to Singapore Citizen (SC) and Permanent Resident (PR) students attending primary schools, secondary schools, junior colleges or Millennia Institute.
To be granted LOA, your child must meet all three criteria:
They are a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident.
They are currently studying in a Singapore school.
They will accompany a parent on an overseas posting and intend to return to this school after coming back to Singapore.
More information about the scheme is available on MOE’s Leave of Absence Scheme website.
How to apply
Submit the online Application for Leave of Absence form. Applications are subject to the Principal’s approval, and the school will notify you of the outcome.
If your child will remain overseas in the following year, renew the LOA in November by submitting the online form again.
